Woolworths report rise in sales

Woolworths reported a 9.3 percent rise in sales to R11.5
billion, the JSE-listed retailer said on Thursday.
It was releasing its results for the 26 weeks to December 27.
Woolworths said in its outlook that conditions in South Africa
and in Australia -- where it operates Country Road -- would remain
challenging.
"In South Africa, the upper income consumer is more confident."
it said.
"As we move out of recession, the group is better positioned to
take advantage of any upliftment in consumer spending," Woolworths
